Cultural and sports activities

Nothing brings people together more effectively than culture and sports. By exercising and playing sports together and taking part in cultural events, people from different linguistic backgrounds interact with one another much more organically than they otherwise might.

Cooperation activities are shared undertakings which involve people living in different parts of Estonia as well as local governments and third-sector organisations. The aim of such undertakings is to support cultural and sports activities that provide a platform for people who live in Estonia but speak different languages to get to know one another.

The Integration Foundation helps to implement such activities as part of the ‘Integration-based cooperation activities’ sub-point of the ‘Activities promoting integration in Estonian society’ project of the European Social Fund. Cooperation between people and teams from the field of culture is financed for the organisation and running of workshops, masterclasses and discussions. Team and popular sports events which involve people from different cultural backgrounds are also supported. Most of these activities are focussed on Ida-Viru and Harju counties, where there are a lot of people who speak Russian as their first language.
