The 7th season of the Language Friends programme, which brought together a total of 1,078 conversation pairs, concluded with a joint online meeting attended by Dmitri Moskovtsev, Director of the Foundation, Eda Silberg, Undersecretary for Cultural Diversity at the Ministry of Culture, and Ave Landrat, Head of the Language Friends programme; language friends were welcomed with performances by members of Theatre Vanemuine who had participated in the programme: Merle Jääger, Federico Mechelli Uhl together with Kristo Käo, Peep Puis, Gustavo Pedro Lima Da Silva, and Kristiina Kangur, Head of HR at the Estonian National Theatre Vanemuine, all of whom had also taken part in the programme themselves.
We launched the Language Friends programme on 20 March 2020 to offer language learners the opportunity to continue to practise Estonian via online channels in place of the events for communicating that were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In seven years, a total of 9,322 people have taken part in the Language Friends programme. Volunteers of all ages, from all walks of life, and from many countries have contributed as mentors.
In 2026, 1,958 people participated in the Language Friends programme, including 951 volunteer mentors and 1,007 language learners. An overview of the 7th season of the programme: link.
